Collection: Irene Sweeney

Irene Sweeney is a Donegal artist who now lives and works in Belfast. She graduated with her BA in Fine Art in 2020, and MA in Fine Art at Ulster University in 2022.

Irene’s most recent series of almost photo-realistic paintings is based on her close-up encounters with fungi, an intriguing subject that hold an almost spell-binding fascination for her.

Irene has won several institutional awards throughout her education, and has had her work, Mindscapes, selected by The European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA), as part of their permanent collection of works addressing mental health struggles experienced by farmers. This was exhibited in STAM Europa in Brussels, Belgium in 2023. A selection of group shows includes Young Belfast Artists (2023), ArtisAnn Gallery, Belfast, Concurrence (2022), Graduates Exhibition at The MAC, Belfast (2020) and ɪˈklɛktɪk at The Playhouse, Derry (2018).
