Collection: Patrick Conyngham

Patrick Conyngham was born in Drogheda, Co Louth, in 1959.  As a young man he attended the Lee Strasbourg School of Acting in New York, before returning to London and thence to Ireland in 1990. He now lives and works in County Monaghan as an artist, poet and writer.

His novel ‘Between the Hills’ was published in 2006, and he has also published various books of poetry and short stories. Painting however, is his first love and he uses this medium to explore meaning through colour, texture and depth, trying to find a way into a higher vibrating world.

He works in mixed media on canvas and panel, using oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, and wax in whatever way seems appropriate to best describe the subject.

The paintings play between the abstract and the figurative: sometimes remaining completely abstract while at other times using figurative images that appear to flow through the paintings.

Patrick’s work is in held in a number of private and public collections throughout Ireland, Europe, and the USA.  He has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows in galleries across the British Isles, including: The Tom Caldwell Gallery, Belfast; The Oxford Street Gallery, London; The Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast; The Droichead Arts Centre, Drocheada, The Toradh Gallery, The Market Square, Monaghan, Framewerk, Charles Gilmore Gallery, Newry & Mourne Arts Centre, The Downpatrick Arts Centre, and a solo show at the Basement Gallery of the An Tain Arts Centre, Dundalk.
