Diarmuid Delargy is an internationally recognised painter, print-maker and sculptor.
He is renowned for his paintings of fish and sharks inspired from the Atlantic coast close to his studio in Sligo. His paintings are a personal commentary on the changing nature of the coast.
Over the past thirty years he has produced a body of work on the theme 'Art and Extinction' and more specifically the 'Shark Series' which relates to this broader theme.
“My interests don’t necessarily lie just in painting, I’ve had protracted spells of making prints, particularly etching and lithography. This experience has certainly affected my painting.”
Diarmuid has worked with the late Samuel Beckett from whom he received written permission to make a large suite of prints. He has also collaborated with the Irish poets; Ciaran Carson and the Oxford chair for poetry Paul Muldoon on a handmade book in New York.
He was born in Belfast in 1958. He graduated in 1981 from the University of Ulster and later completed his post-graduate MA studies at the Slade School of Art in London. He is a member of Aosdana, the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, London and the Royal Ulster Academy. He taught painting and print at the College of Art Belfast and Atlantic Technical University Galway.
He has exhibited widely, including in Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Berlin. He has been awarded the Gold Medal at the European Large Format Print Exhibition, Dublin (1991).
This exhibition is part of EastSide Arts Festival and Fleadh Fringe Festival.
